Seahorse Project holds Mexican festival-inspired creative afternoon

Our Seahorse Project children’s bereavement team is inviting children and young people to join a free creative afternoon to remember someone who has died.

The theme of the afternoon takes inspiration from the Mexican festival Dia de los Muertos – Day of the Dead – which is a way to celebrate death as a natural part of life and is not meant to be scary.

The gathering, on Thursday 29th October between 3pm and 4.30pm, is at the hospice in Broadwater Way, Eastbourne, BN22 9PZ. Children and young people will have an opportunity to connect with others who understand what it’s like to be bereaved and can decorate a Day of the Dead cookie or create a mask.

The Seahorse Project offers counselling support to bereaved youngsters aged between 6 and 18 years old in the St Wilfrid’s catchment area. However, the event is open to all children and young people, regardless of whether they are known to us.

Lisa Perrins, Seahorse Project Co-ordinator, said: “The Dia de los Muertos festival celebrates the cycle of life and death and is a time to gather and remember family and friends who have died. You may have seen it in the Disney film, Coco. We hope our afternoon will be a relaxed, welcoming space where children and young people’s memories can be shared, held and honoured.”
