There are so many ways to get involved

Whatever your skills, interests or availability, there’s a role for you.

You could:

Every volunteer has their own reason for getting involved. Here are just a couple of their stories.

Meet Cate - Events volunteer

Why did you want to volunteer for the hospice?

Not only do I have connections within the hospice, but I also work in the local community, so wanted to give back and get involved.

What do you enjoy about the role?

All of the fundraising staff I’ve worked with are so lovely and encouraging. Every event is also a load of fun and I’ve been given so many amazing opportunities to grow my skills in media and communications.

What would you say to other people considering volunteering?

If you’re looking for an opportunity to get involved with something fulfilling not only for yourself but for others, I would definitely recommend it.

Meet Trevor - Inpatient Unit Host

Why did you want to volunteer for the hospice?

After losing my brother-in-law last year, I saw first-hand the incredible care hospice nurses give. Their compassion stayed with me, and I wanted to give something back.

What do you enjoy about the role?

It’s the people — everyone is so friendly and welcoming. You work closely as a team and quickly get to know others, and I’ve made some great friends. There are also lots of opportunities to get involved in events, which adds a really social side to volunteering.

What would you say to other people considering volunteering?

I’d say give it a go. There are different roles to try, and you can always change if one doesn’t suit you. It’s a really positive, rewarding environment. It's very different from what people might expect, and everyone is there to support you.
