Catheterisation - Insertion of Urinary Indwelling Catheters

A 3.5 hour workshop aimed at registered nurses, looking for a refresher or introduction to the skills needed to safely insert & care for urinary catheters. Assist in the prevention of infection. The promotion of comfort & well-being in cared for individuals, predominantly those nearing the end of their lives.

This workshop will cover:

  • Knowledge & understanding of the female & male urinary system anatomy & physiology
  • Knowledge of different types of indwelling urinary catheters & the rationale for insertion & removal
  • Demonstrate safe & effective male & female urinary catheter insertion using ANTT
  • Discuss best practice for catheter care & maintenance techniques
  • Recognise the risks & signs of catheter-associated complications & take appropriate action
