Eastbourne and District Indoor Bowls Club supports hospice
Eastbourne and District Indoor Bowls Club is a Bronze level member of our Partners Scheme. This means it is part of our corporate network, which gives local businesses an opportunity to support the hospice with an annual fundraising commitment. We asked Club Marketing Director, Derek Spiller, to tell us about the club in his own words.
“Eastbourne and District Indoor Bowls Club are proud of our long-standing history of regular donations to St Wilfrid’s, raised by our book corner and jigsaw puzzle table.
Originally set up as a craft table selling greetings cards made by club members, the book corner and puzzle table is an established feature in the club where members can donate, buy or rent jigsaw puzzles and books.
The total amount raised has now reached £32,000 and the table continues to raise money year-on-year.
In addition, last season the Men’s and Ladies’ Club Captains Charity Match in March 2024 raised £1,055, and St Wilfrid’s is our Captain’s Charity for the 2024/2025 season. Fundraising by members includes John Mason (London to Brighton Bike Ride), Lyn Garrett (Rainbow Run) and Jo Brand (Himalaya Trek), plus Christmas Jumper Day in December.
Over the years, many of our members have had a connection with St Wilfrid’s, and their support of our fundraising activities remains as strong as ever. We are delighted that our club has recently signed up to become a business partner of St Wilfrid’s.
Based in the beautiful Hampden Park, our friendly club welcomes new members. If you wish to take up the sport of bowls, we offer free taster sessions and coaching, plus an active social calendar for those who join as social members.
