St Wilfrid’s Hospice celebrates staff and volunteers this Hospice Care Week

To mark Hospice Care Week (9th-15th October), St Wilfrid’s Hospice has been recognising the contribution of its staff and volunteers.

Hospice Care Week celebrates the incredible work that is being done to make sure everyone can benefit from the best end of life care. This year’s theme, ‘We are Hospice Care,’ celebrates those who work tirelessly to make dark times a little brighter, from chefs to physios, nurses to gardeners – and everyone in between.

At St Wilfrid’s, colleagues have been invited to celebrate each other. Flower volunteer Sheila (pictured) has been recognised for her wonderful displays: ‘Sheila’s floral arrangements keep St Wilfrid’s looking beautiful and make a huge difference, are always commented on and greatly appreciated by patients and visitors.’

Charlotte works in the kitchen, and her colleagues have chosen her because: ‘not only does Charlotte contribute to making the kitchen a happy environment, she is a ray of sunshine to customers behind the servery and makes everyone smile.’

Host volunteer Andrew greets people when they arrive at the hospice. He has been nominated because: ‘he makes everyone feel welcome. He is friendly, attentive, professional and superb in a front of house role. He works so hard, always with a smile and nothing is too much trouble.’

St Wilfrid’s Chief Executive Officer, Colin Twomey, is delighted with the response from everyone. He said: ‘This Hospice Care Week we’re celebrating the wonderful team who enable us to do the great things that we do. From community nurses to chefs, gardeners to hosts, our 244 staff and 430 volunteers are the lifeblood of our organisation.’

St Wilfrid’s Hospice provides high-quality care and support for people across Eastbourne, Seaford, Hailsham, Uckfield, Heathfield, and all points between, with life-limiting illnesses. Support is offered at the hospice, in patients’ own homes and in care homes.
