Royal Ascot Ladies’ Day comes to town!

Lynn Popovic brought her own version of Royal Ascot Ladies’ Day to Horam in the summer, raising more than £1,100 for the hospice.

Tickets cost £15 for the event at The Cartlodge, Horam Manor Farm.

In exchange, friends and family enjoyed a glass of Prosecco and afternoon tea, and could buy raffle tickets to win some great prizes including a vineyard tour, Plumpton race day voucher and a hamper.

Lynn held the event to raise money in memory of her sister Carol, who was looked after by the hospice 20 years ago, aged 37-years-old.

More than 40 ladies got glammed up for the special Ladies’ Day, including Lynn’s daughters, Emma and Sarah, mum Pearl and granddaughter Emalyn.

Lynn said: ‘I wanted to go to Royal Ascot when I turned 40, but it was around the time Carol passed away. So instead, mum and I went to our local charity shop, bought hats, placed a 50p bet at our local bookies and sat indoors with a glass of bubbles. I did eventually make it to Ascot with the girls for my 50th birthday.

‘After my husband’s Aunty Avril died, we decided to hold an event in aid of the hospice. That’s when I came up with the idea of my own Ladies’ Day. Last year we raised more than £800, so this year I was aiming to reach £1,000. We all had an amazing time, and I was delighted to raise £1,174 thanks to everyone’s generosity.’

The fundraising efforts of wonderful people like Lynn help us to continue the work we do.
