Update from the Community Engagement Team – February 2023

Creating Community Connections

This month our Community Engagement Team have been getting out and about to spread awareness of the hospice and our wider services.

Creating connections to support those with Visual Impairments

We were pleased to visit Eastbourne Talking Newspaper a fantastic local charity providing news to those who are visually impaired. We recorded a segment about the hospice and what we do to ensure our information is accessible to those with a visual impairment locally. We were also pleased to welcome Eastbourne Blind Society to the hospice to offer training on visual impairment and communication techniques to support patients, carers, and families on our ward and in the community. Thank you to Eastbourne Blind Society for providing this training!

Community Connections with other hospices

This past month we’ve been delighted to have the opportunity to meet with three other Living Well/Wellbeing Hospice teams to talk about services and activities. As part of our established close connection with St Michael’s Hospice, we met with Margot and Jo to discuss Compassionate Communities, current activities, and future plans.

Later in the month we visited St Christopher’s Hospice in London, spending time with several members of their team and learning more about what they do. We also recently welcomed Emma, the Wellbeing Centre, and Outreach Lead at St Catherine’s Hospice in Crawley for a visit and a tour of St Wilfrid’s.

These connections and knowledge allow us to continually learn from each other and further influence our Living Well Services in the months ahead for our patients and carers.

Coming up in the Community

We will be holding two events in the community this week.

On Thursday 23rd February we will be at the Gather Space in the Beacon in Eastbourne Town Centre from 10am-4pm. Here you can have a chat to us about our services and events.

On Saturday 25th February we will be in Seaford Library from 11am-3pm. Feel free to come and meet us to learn more about our support, volunteering for us and our events.

We look forward to seeing you there!

If you would like to find out more about our services and events get in touch with Lucy Cheshire (Community Engagement Lead) lucy.cheshire@stwhospice.org or Kathryn Sutter (Community Engagement Navigator) kathryn.sutter@stwhospice.org .
