Design a mindfulness map
Here at the hospice we are fortunate to be surrounded by beautiful gardens - two of which are open to the public. Being in nature gives us a wonderful opportunity to improve our mental well-being by reducing stress and enhancing our mood.
Mindfulness walks help us do this by encouraging us to focus on the present moment by paying full attention to the sensations of walking, engaging our senses, and observing our surroundings.
Could you design a mindfullness map?
In order to share the benefits of mindfullness walks with more people, we are inviting you to draw or paint your own mindfullness map of our wildlife garden. The best entries from each category will be turned into leaflets so that anybody visiting the hospice can take a mindful walk.

A walk for the senses
Our mindfullness walk is set in the wildlife garden near the entrance to the hospice car park. It is a beautifully serene area that offers space for quiet contemplation. Our Spiritual Support lead has outlined the details of the walk below. You can also see a 360 degree video of the garden here:
See. Stop for a moment - what can you see?
Breathe. Sit for a moment. Allow your breath to gently nourish and nurture you.
Touch. What is around you? Can you feel the texture of a plant or pebble?
Sound. What can you hear? Allow the sounds to come and go like floating clouds.
Taste. Lick your lips - what can you taste?
Smell. Take a gentle breath - what can you smell?
How to enter
The easiest way is to photograph your map and upload it below. Please ensure images are in JPeg format and do not exceed 5MB.
They can also be dropped into the hospice Welcome Point or posted to Spiritual Support, St Wilfrid’s Hospice, 1 Broadwater Way, Eastbourne, BN22 9PZ. We apologise but original copeis of maps cannot be returned. Please include your name, the category you are entering, and a contact email address.
The deadline to receive maps is 11.59pm on Friday 31st October.
We suggest using only pens, paints or pencils to create the map as we plan to turn them into leaflets. Glitter, or other items stuck tot he map, will not look good when copied.
The competition will be judged by our Spiritual support lead and a panel of patients, and winners will be notified by Friday 14th November.
