Last chance to sign up for Starlight Stroll
Fewer than 200 tickets remain for our Starlight Stroll sponsored walk to remember a loved one.
The twilight walk on Saturday, 13th September starts at Princes Park and takes in a 5 or 10-mile route along Eastbourne seafront to The Italian Gardens at Holywell. Here, walkers can lay a decorated lantern in memory of a loved one.
Hayley Barratt and her family are walking in memory of her Grandad, Don Allen. Hayley said: “When he passed, we all decided we wanted to try and do something as a way to say thanks to the incredible staff and nurses at the hospice who made what was a terrible time a bit easier.”
Don’s widow, June, added: “St Wilfrid’s offered Don and the family great support from the minute he was diagnosed with Mesothelioma to the time of his passing. The home support team of carers and nurses were wonderful, available for advice and help 24 hours a day. Don had his final days in the hospice where we were surrounded by professional, caring staff. They helped us navigate this difficult path and nothing was ever too much trouble.”
St Wilfrid’s Hospice CEO, Colin Twomey, said: “Starlight Stroll is such a special event because it really goes to the heart of what St Wilfrid’s is about. It’s an opportunity for people to remember their loved ones and think about their experiences with us. It’s real, emotional contact, and so powerful, moving and uplifting.”
Every walker at the event, which is sponsored by Bowes House Care Home and Dicker Precision Components Ltd, will receive a Starlight Stroll T-shirt and commemorative medal.
Tickets cost £20 for adults and £18 for under 16s. Under 5s are free.
