Top Rainbow Run fundraisers share story

This year’s Rainbow Run was our most successful ever, and that’s thanks to our incredible fundraisers! Over 1,500 of you raised more than £105,000. We talked to Daniel Moorton from our top fundraising team, Team Jenny, to find out their reasons for taking on the colourful challenge.

“Our Mum Jenny had a very unexpected diagnosis of cancer in January this year. Sadly, by the time she knew she had it, it was widespread, and treatment wasn’t an option. Mum was given just two weeks to live. Our world was turned upside down.

As a family we had never had to deal with anything like this before. We were at a loss as to what to do and where to go to help our lovely Mum get the love, care, dignity and support she rightfully deserved in her last days.

That was when St Wilfrid’s stepped in. They gave our Mum the care she was in desperate need of, in the calm, loving and kind environment of the hospice. St Wilfrid’s supported us – and continues to support us – as a family through what has been the most difficult time of our lives. Nothing has been too much trouble. Mum sadly lost her battle in February.

We decided we wanted to give a little something back, so decided as a family to do the Rainbow Run to help raise much-needed funds. It would also be a lovely tribute to our beautiful Mum. Our team comprised myself and my sister, Emma, our partners, children and grandchildren. It all became a little competitive but in the most amazing way and we ended up raising more money than we ever thought possible – £3,300.

We have been blown away with how generous, kind and giving people have been. The amount we raised also spoke volumes about how valued and loved our Mum was in the local community.

Rainbow Run did not disappoint! We had the most amazing day as a family, and the children loved it. We will definitely be taking part again next year. It was our first time but most definitely not our last!

Thank you to everyone at St Wilfrid’s for everything you did, and continue to do, for loved ones and families like ours. We cannot put into words just how much we appreciate what it meant to us. I know our Mum would want to say a massive thank you to every single one of you. We are her voice. Thank you.”
