Sunniva Harte’s Garden

Oak Gate, Hankham Street, Hankham BN24 5BG

Sunday 2nd August

10am-4pm

An English country garden, well planted with artist’s studio and far-reaching views over Pevensey Marshes.

The garden is named after Sunniva ‘Sunny’ Harte, who envisioned and created the tranquil hideaway. Sunniva’s partner, David, decided to open up the garden for the event after the hospice cared for her in February 2013.

Sunniva was best known as a garden photographer and wrote several books on the subject including the popular Zen Gardening and A Perfect Country Garden.

Sunniva was influenced by the famous walled gardens at nearby Charleston, where she was an early guide and Charleston’s retired head gardener, Mark Divall, now helps David to maintain Sunniva’s garden.

‘It’s an honour to be able to share Sunny’s work with the wider world,’ said David, ‘and a privilege to help St Wilfrid’s and raise money to help others.’

Dogs permitted on short leads.

Entry: £5 per person

Arrival time slots are available between 10am and 3.30pm, with the garden closing at 4pm. If you are booking as part of a group, we recommend that one person books for everyone in order to ensure that you can all book for the same arrival time.
