Where: Via secure online platform or telephone contact

When: 2-4 clients per week, weekends preferred or after school hours (4-7pm)

DBS: Enhanced check with adult barring required

Qualifications: An accredited counselling qualification, (or to be in the 2nd year of a diploma or degree in counselling) or a social work qualification with appropriate counselling experience or significant relevant other experience.


The role:

We are looking for four to five volunteers to provide emotional and psychological support to recently bereaved children and young people in our community.

Person specification:

  • An accredited counselling qualification, (or to be in the 2nd year of a diploma or degree in counselling) or a social work qualification with appropriate counselling experience or significant relevant other experience.

  • Experience of bereavement training (& some counselling hours).

  • Working online training.

  • Some experience with working with children and young people.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, especially empathy & sensitivity.

  • Flexibility to respond to the needs of the service (including IT updates).

  • An awareness of the importance of client confidentiality.


Tasks:

  • Meet with allocated clients on a one-to-one online/telephone basis.

  • Follow-up administration.

  • Participate in regular monthly supervision group meetings, in accordance with best practice.

  • Attend the hospice organizational induction, and relevant initial training for the role, as organized by FSC and DPFS.

  • Attend Seahorse Project meetings held bi-monthly.

General requirements:

  • To maintain confidentiality at all times.

  • To comply with the relevant policies and procedures of St Wilfrid’s Hospice.

  • To undertake training as invited / indicated by the manager of the role.

  • Sensitivity to the hospice environment where end of life care is delivered.

  • A St Wilfrid’s Hospice ID badge should be worn at all times when volunteering.
