The next miscreant to spend time behind bars is Funeral Director Lee Howard, of Eastbourne-based Payne & Sons Funeral Directors.

Payne & Sons Funeral Directors was established in July 2010 by Lee’s older brother, Rifleman Christopher Howard, just 11 months after being severely injured by an IED whilst on foot patrol in Helmand Province, Afghanistan.

Lee took the helm at Payne & Sons seven years ago, and the firm has gone from strength to strength, with a second branch opening on Hampden Park’s Brassey Parade in May 2018.

On taking part in Jail and Bail, Lee said: ‘Losing a loved one is one of the toughest times in someone’s life, and it’s a privilege to support bereaved families every day in my line of work.

St Wilfrid’s Hospice is an amazing place, and I would like to help the charity to continue to support families not only through the grieving process, but through rehabilitation, too.’

When he isn’t supporting families through the grieving process, Lee likes to unwind with a boogie at Eastbourne’s premier nightlife destination: Cameo.

Lee’s happy to count meticulously-choreographed routines to Madonna’s Papa Don’t Preach, Barbie Girl by Aqua and Boney M’s Daddy Cool amongst his repertoire, but it appears that not everyone is so appreciative of his dancing efforts, as in September of last year, he was convicted on three counts of ‘dad dancing.’

One onlooker, who will be appearing as a special witness for the trial, recounted one of Howard’s harrowing misdemeanors for St Wilfrid’s:

‘I was at one of Cameo’s regular drum and bass nights, and Lee stood out to me as he kept requesting that the DJ play Phil Collins. He relented eventually, but everyone was a bit shocked when Easy Lover came on...

‘Lee then started “throwing shapes” (his words not mine) and was really belting out the lyrics.

‘The night reached its low point when he started waving his iPhone along to Wonderwall.

There weren’t even any kids around to embarrass, so it was all a bit of a mystery to me.’

If you can forgive Lee’s egregious crimes against dancing, you can help him shimmy out of his jail cell by sponsoring him him at
