Our Open Gardens season returns for 2022 with a full season of events! From lakes to sculptures, exotic fruits to rose gardens, formal beds to wildflower meadows, there really is something for everyone at our beautiful Sussex gardens.

Many of our gardens will also feature wonderful extras, such as live bands, interesting stalls, delicious home-baked cakes and refreshments, informational talks and more.

It really is the perfect summer’s day out, and we can’t wait to welcome you back to a full season this year. No pre-booking is required – you can turn up on the day and make an entry donation.

Bates green garden

Bates Green

Wednesday 27th April, 10am to 5pm

Bates Green, Tye Hill Road, Arlington, BN26 6SH

This tranquil garden contains shady woodland planting, a colourful cutting garden, a wildlife pond and many mature tree and shrub specimens. An English Country Garden.

St Wilfrid’s will also be providing refreshments for the Bluebell Wood at Bates Green on this day, so why not make a day of it and visit the beautiful Bluebell Walk too! Entry to the Woodland is £6, and this date is their special NHS thank you day with free entry when you present your NHS ID badge.

A medium-size garden with mature trees and shrubs, under planted with spring and autumn bulbs, seasonal herbaceous perennials and a pond with carp. Cherry trees in flower in spring, pergola with climbers, shaded beds and containers.

Flint walls enclose the main lawn, herbaceous borders and rose garden. With a Nepeta lined courtyard, informal pond and specimen trees including a very ancient oak. Many spring flowers and tree blossom, and a fascinating Physic Garden with a talk on the day about medicinal plants from the owner, a retired anaesthetist.

We have five different gardens at St Wilfrid’s Hospice, all expertly maintained by our gardener Kevin Loveland and his team of volunteers. Come and enjoy a special insight into our gardens with a guided tour from Kevin himself.

This event has limited spaces so call 01323 434241 to reserve your £5 ticket.

This year's Annual Pass

Our Open Gardens Annual Pass is a fantastic way to enjoy all our beautiful Sussex gardens, with great perks too. The Pass makes a lovely gift for a friend or family member, or a well-deserved treat for yourself! For a suggested minimum donation of £40, you can gain entry to every one of our 12 gorgeous gardens.

Support St Wilfrid’s Hospice

Our Open Gardens season raises vital funds every year to help St Wilfrid’s Hospice continue supporting local patients and their families. It costs just over £17,000 a day to run all of our services here at the hospice and out in our community.

We can also Gift Aid our Annual Pass, raising even more for the hospice.

Our Open Gardens have a suggested donation of £5 entry per garden, so if you are planning on visiting all of our gardens this year you can make a brilliant saving!
