An opportunity has arisen at St Wilfrid’s Hospice for a suitably trained and experienced Doctor to join the medical establishment providing specialist palliative care to all patients under the care of St Wilfrid’s Hospice.  The post is offered from 1st December 2020 and is 0.6 full-time equivalent (6 Programmed activities).

The post is fixed-term for ten months and has become available due to re-allocation of consultant duties.  The post will take on consultant leadership for community service at the during the fixed term period a review of medical input to the community is expected.

It is proposed the successful candidate will have an interest in a specific disease or condition requiring palliative care input ideally a non-malignant condition to build on relationship and referral patterns; there is a current need within our support of patients with heart failure.

The vacant post is 0.6 WTE (3 days a week plus advice second on-call). The post will focus primarily on medical support to community teams overseeing the new five locality ‘hubs’.  And in addition, will have consultant level input to the in-patient unit when on-call unit supporting junior doctors in delivering best palliative care.  The post will also contribute to the out of hours medical second on-call which is for 4 Hospices in East Sussex and the palliative care service in East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust.  The post offers 1.5 PA supporting professional activities and the post holder will be expected to take the lead on aspects of quality improvement in the community services.  The proposed working days are Wednesday, Thursday and Friday with an alternate Friday afternoon off in lieu of predictable out of hours work. 

The post will suit a newly qualified consultant or someone within reach of CCT as this will be consultant peer support.  A local knowledge of primary care services is desirable.
