Can you help us grow our retail operation?

St Wilfrid’s Hospice has eight shops across Eastbourne, Hailsham, Seaford, Heathfield and Uckfield with a gross trading turnover of c.£1 million. Most of the merchandise sold, comprising clothes, bric-a-brac, collectables and furniture is pre-loved and donated to the hospice, with a small amount of bought-in goods, but with an interest to grow this area. We have also recently re-established our online trading operation, and we are looking to expand this across several platforms. 

We are now looking for someone with current or very recent retail or online trading experience to join our Income Generation Committee on a co-opted basis. Co-optees are recruited onto our main committees for their specialist knowledge and operate alongside St Wilfrid’s trustees. They are appointed for an initial one year period and can be reappointed for up to four years. Some of our co-optees go on to become trustees on the main board. 

The Income Generation Committee meets four times a year, and we would also look to the person taking on this role to visit our shops and our online operation to get to know our team and understand how we operate. 

Full induction training will be given. 

Our retail trading operation is an important contributor of income to fund the hospice’s activities, and we want to grow both activity and gross and net income.
