Update from our CEO

Hospice response to the increase in Covid-19 infections

We have been monitoring the recent increases in Covid infections in Eastbourne and the surrounding area – up 27% in the last week. The emergence of the Omicron variant, while not widespread at this stage, also further complicates the picture.

In response to this current trend, as a healthcare facility, we are taking measures to reduce the footfall into our building. Sadly, this means that from Monday 6th December we will be closing the café and hospice shop to the general public until further notice. We will continue to hold outpatient appointments in the hospice and, as we have done throughout the Covid pandemic, we will continue to allow visitors into the Inpatient Unit. Our Wellbeing Garden will also remain open to the public from 9am to 5pm and from next week the Christmas tree will be in there.

The two pre-booked Lights of Love events on 11th and 12th December will still take place as they are happening in the Wellbeing Garden.

I am very sorry for our regular café customers that we are taking this step, but I hope you will understand the reasons. We will review the position in the New Year.

Visitors to the Inpatient Unit

Our visitor policy is to allow any inpatient to nominate up to 10 individuals to visit them during their stay.  There is no restriction on how many of these nominated individuals may visit on a given day but there is a limit of 2 visitors at a time. All named visitors to patients will complete a risk assessment by email or telephone prior to the first visit and will also need to do a lateral flow test, or show evidence of a very recent negative result. All subsequent testing must be completed independently by a named visitor prior to each visit. Further details about the Visitor Policy can be found here.

Our retail shops continue to be open during normal trading hours and we are open for donations at the Donation Centre on an appointment basis on Monday, Thursday, Friday, and alternate Saturdays. We will also do doorstep collections of furniture and house clearances from 9am to 5pm Monday to Saturday by appointment.

Please call 01323 418424, email retail@stwhospice.org to book a slot.

Thank you for all your support for St Wilfrid’s.

With best wishes
