Update from our CEO

Monday 5th September 2022

I hope that all our supporters have enjoyed the wonderful summer we have had. The return to school heralds the start of a busy autumn period for St Wilfrid’s Hospice.

This month is Make a Will Month when we work closely with local solicitor firms to encourage people to write or update their will. Participating firms will write a simple will for you in exchange for a gift left in your will to St Wilfrid’s or a donation to us. If you would like more information about this, please contact Roz Bristowe on 01323 434214 or email rozelyn.bristowe@stwhospice.org.

It’s not too late to sign up for our Starlight Stroll, which takes place this Saturday 10th September along Eastbourne seafront. More information about this event can be found here.

In October, from the 24th to 30th, we are encouraging individuals, schools, groups and companies to support us for Wilf Week by organising your own fundraising activity, for which we will supply fundraising materials and advice. Click here to register your interest.

We are hugely grateful to the Lansdowne Hotel for making us the beneficiary of a Gala Dinner to celebrate their 110th anniversary on Saturday 24th September, and also to Eastbourne unLtd Chamber of Commerce for including St Wilfrid’s as a Charity Partner of the Business Awards that will take place on Friday 30th September. On Friday 2nd December we have our own Gala Dinner at the Winter Garden, which is already sold out.

Some of you may have seen the announcement in the press last week that Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cornwall has agreed to become the President of St Wilfrid’s Hospice. We are honoured and delighted by this news and hope to welcome The Duchess back to East Sussex on future occasions, after she visited us in 2021 for our 40th anniversary celebrations.

Finally, after six wonderful years at the helm of this great charity, I will be taking retirement at the end of the year. The search for my replacement has begun and I will do all that I can to ensure a smooth transition to the new person.

Thank you for all that you do to support St Wilfrid’s Hospice.

With best wishes
