Donating at funerals

Many people choose to ask for donations to be given in lieu of flowers. Help St Wilfrid's with this meaningful act.

This is a lovely way for family and friends to make a donation and feel they are giving something back to the charity as a show of thanks, whilst remembering a loved one. We have two ways in which you can do this, through a donation box or through our Funeral Tribute Fund form at the bottom of this page.

How can I arrange a donation box?

If you would like to collect donations at a memorial or funeral service, St Wilfrid’s Hospice is able to provide you with a personalised donation box and collection envelopes.

The donation box can be personalised with their name, date of birth and date of death. You may also like to add a photo of your loved one.

The donation envelopes can be placed on pews or tables for those attending the service. Each envelope has the space to write bank card details, insert a cheque or cash, and complete a Gift Aid Declaration if the donor is eligible. The envelope has our address on and can be sent directly to us at a later date if preferred, we only ask you to please ensure that the name of the person to be remembered is on the envelopes so that we can attribute all donations in their memory.

We like to write to the next of kin or designated family member to thank them for choosing St Wilfrid’s Hospice to receive these kind and generous donations and let them know how much has been given in memory.

Funeral Donations and Donations In Memory

  • Though Funeral Directors will forward to a family the names and value of donations from a funeral, St Wilfrid’s Hospice will not pass on the names or donation amounts of any donations given in memory to the Next of Kin or family member of the deceased.
  • Donations will only be acknowledged to the Next of Kin or family member when asked to do so in writing by the donor.
  • A Memorial Fund is set up internally for everyone that has passed away and any donations received for that individual will be included within this Memorial Fund, providing we have been notified.
  • The Next of Kin of the family member can request an overall total of how much has been received in the Memorial Fund, but a breakdown of these donations or donors is not possible due to Data Protection and GDPR.
