Volunteers are at the heart of our hospice and play a vital role in everything we do. Without their time and generosity, we would not be able to provide our services to patients and their families.

Accountable to: Host Supervisor (who is accountable to the Front of House Manager)

Location: The Street Café St Wilfrid's Hospice, Broadwater Way

Essence of the role: Support with the running of the café, offering a warm and friendly service to customers and visitors of the hospice.

General tasks: (as guided by Host Liaison)

  • Offer assistance to customers either with help to carrying trays or getting customers their food items.
  • To support patients, their visitors or groups using the café, giving an empathetic approach where required, or engage general conversation.
  • Assist in re-stocking the café.
  • Clear tables in the café to kitchen area in order that there is sufficient supply of crockery ready to use.
  • Clean and sanitise tables ensuring they are suitable for customer use.
  • To support patients and their visitors give an empathetic
  • During busy periods and rest breaks and cover the café till operation and be responsible for the use of till after appropriate training
  • To support patients and their visitors giving an empathetic and listening approach, without trying to solve or counsel.

Time Commitment:  At least once a week on weekdays or weekends from 10.30am-2.30pm
