Creating connections at our first Community Links Get-Together! We held our first Community Links Get-Together last week and were delighted to welcome so many local groups and organisations who have joined the project, and also some new faces who had come along to find out more. The event aimed to celebrate the launch of the National Lottery Community-Funded projects – Community Links, Community Support Volunteers (CSVs) and Living Well. After presenting a short piece on Community Links, Lucy introduced Paul, St Wilfrid’s Community Volunteering Project Co-ordinator, who spoke about CSV and Living Well and then introduced Gerry, one of our CSVs who kindly came along to talk about the role. It was also a great opportunity to tell our Community Links about the diverse variety of volunteering opportunities which Paul also explained and Tania, Online Retail Manager, joined us to speak about the hospice’s exciting roles within retail, including its newly launched eBay store. Lucy told the groups about the upcoming events including Christmas Jumper Day and Lights of Love, our annual remembrance services, and then we offered a tour of St Wilfrid’s which several people attended. Many people fed back that following the event they had an increased knowledge of what we do here at St Wilfrid’s and will take this information back to members of their groups. Current Community Links who came along represented a large part of our catchment area including Seaford, Eastbourne and Herstmonceux. As well as the presentations, there was time for people to talk to each other and learn about other groups and what services and activities they provide in the community. Lucy, Community Engagement Co-ordinator, who arranged the event said, ‘It was wonderful to see so many people attend and not only discuss St Wilfrid’s different projects, volunteering opportunities and upcoming events, but also to see individual Community Links meeting with each other and sharing what their groups offer.’ Following the event we have had great feedback and we look forward to holding another Get-Together in the new year!
