In celebration of St Wilfrid’s 40th Anniversary, local digital marketing agency Youbiquity have very kindly chosen the hospice as their Charity of the Year.

Team members Chantelle and Nick both have personal experience with the hospice and know first-hand what the services can do for people at the end of life and for their loved ones. Now they want to give something back. Their goal is to raise £1,600 by the end of 2021, which is the cost of four full days of care for one person staying on the hospice’s Inpatient Unit.

They have exciting plans for their fundraising throughout the year and they started this with a virtual 40-mile challenge in May. Between the 8th and 17th May, the team walked four miles a day over 10 days, coming to a total of 40 miles. The challenge started off well with the sun shining for them for the first half of the event.

‘It was a good idea to start the challenge on the weekend, as it was easy to get long walks in and hit the four miles,’ Chantelle told us. ‘The team found it more difficult during the working week as it meant fitting the walks in around office hours.

‘As the days went on, the weather turned to rain which made for some wet and windy walks! Although this was a little discouraging, the team persisted and completed the challenge in good spirits.’

Future Fundraising

We were pleased to hear that the team had a great time completing their walk. ‘The 40 mile walk was a great way to kickstart our charity of the year events and we cannot wait to take on the rest,’ said Chantelle.

Their other fundraising events include:

  • Wilf Walk - a 40km walk on Saturday 21st August from Southease to Normans Bay with incredible views all along the way.
  • Firewalk - on Saturday 27th November, the team will face their fears with the unique experience of walking over hot coals, which rise to the scorching temperature of 800 degrees!
