The Covid-19 pandemic has caused us all to be more imaginative in how we do many of the things we used to take for granted.

We have been humbled to see the innovative fundraising ideas that our community has undertaken to continue to raise funds to support local hospice care.

Just this last week we heard about one of our regular supporters and their fantastic fundraising efforts. Sharon Turner, a hospice volunteer on our IPU and member of a local WI told us,

‘In the past Micheldene WI have held a large summer fundraising tea party, the proceeds of which have been given to support the wonderful work done by St Wilfrid’s.

‘This year, of course, that event could not take place.

‘Instead, Jo Taylor, one of our Committee members, had the inspired idea of organising a number of picnics to be held during August.

‘The picnics enabled our members to meet together safely, in groups of six and, at the same time, raise much-needed funds for St Wilfrid’s.

‘Fifteen generous hosts held picnics in their gardens during the month which sixty-four of our members attended and, thanks to their hard work and generosity, by the time the final picnic was held, Micheldene WI was proud to be able to donate a cheque for £1,500 to St Wilfrid’s.

‘Our members are delighted to have been able to contribute in a small way to the incredible work done to care for and support the hospice patients and their families.’

The cheque was presented to David Scott-Ralphs by Sharon Turner on behalf of Micheldene WI.

Thank you to all involved for your support at this time!
