Joanne's Virtual Three Peaks Challenge During July, Joanne Lancaster took on our Virtual Three Peaks Challenge with the aim to complete 55km – the walking distance up and down each of the Three Peaks. By walking an average of 2.5km a day on her treadmill, Joanne completed the challenge in 26 days and has raised a brilliant amount of money, which we are incredibly grateful for. St Wilfrid’s Hospice is very close to Joanne and her family, as her daughter Sarah volunteers as a Host on our Inpatient Unit (you can read our interview with Sarah here) and sees the work that we do first hand. As well as this, Joanne often donates to our community shops and plays the weekly Local Hospice Lottery in support of the hospice. She is no stranger to fundraising either, as she is on the charity board at her workplace, CMDP, so when she found herself shielding at home from the pandemic, she realised that the V3P Challenge would be the perfect way to give her some focus and raise money for the hospice. ‘I hadn’t done anything like that in a while,’ she told us. ‘There were some days where I had to push myself, but you feel so much better once you’ve done it.’ While she was doing it, Joanne also used her JustGiving page to share regular updates on her progress. Using the platform in this way does not only show those who have made a donation how she is getting on, but it also allows them to feel part of the challenge alongside her. It was also a great way for Joanne to focus on her progress and celebrate her achievements. If you would like to find out how you can set up a JustGiving page and post regular updates, our Fundraising team will be more than happy to help at [email protected] or on 01323 434223. Joanne would highly recommend the V3P Challenge to anyone: ‘It’s great for your mental health and wellbeing. You are doing good and raising money for the hospice, but it also has advantages for you personally. ‘Normally at work I would average about 7,000 steps per day, however, since lockdown and being based at home, this has dropped down to barely 2,000. The challenge renewed my focus on personal health and wellbeing and since completing the challenge I have been going for a walk along the seafront three times a week and doing about 12,000 steps per day.’ We would like to take this opportunity to thank Joanne for her brilliant efforts and to those who sponsored her, helping to raise a brilliant amount of money, which we truly appreciate.
