Recently we welcomed George and Henry to the hospice to present them with a cheque, after they raised £1,160 at the Starlight Stroll in memory of their Nanny Sue. The two boys were joined by their mum, Hollie, and their grandfather, Alan, who also took part in the Stroll alongside them.

Sue was a volunteer at the hospice after retiring from East Sussex County Council, but during her time here she was diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumour. You may remember her from a story we told back in May last year, when she threw a final party for all of her friends and family, taking advantage of the situation by choosing to do all of the things that mattered to her the most.

When the family were first given the news, they were devastated. But following in their nanny’s footsteps, George and Henry turned their grief in to something positive, raising a remarkable amount of money in her memory and also having leaves on our Memory Tree.

‘We are very pleased about how many people sponsored us for this event. We loved doing it in memory of Nanny Sue,’ said George.

We were so honored and proud to have taken part in a fantastic event, enabling us to raise so much for St Wilfrid’s Hospice and as a tribute to the loving memory of our dear Sue.’ Alan added. ‘Many thanks to those who kindly donated.’

In total, Sue’s family have raised a wonderful £3,208 to her memorial fund, and continue to do so by recently purchasing the new pin badges, which the boys also chose.

If you wish to pay tribute to a loved one, either through purchasing a leaf on our Memory Tree or one of our beautiful pin badges, leaving a memory in our Memory Book, or making a donation, please visit the In Memory pages on our website or contact Jenna Stringer on 01323 434216 or [email protected].
