Volunteering with St Wilfrid's

Whether it's minutes or months, days or decades, every moment matters

Volunteers are at the heart of our hospice and play a vital role in everything we do. Without their time and generosity, we would not be able to provide our services to patients and their families.

We're always looking to welcome new faces to our amazing team. If you have some time to spare and would like to make a difference in your local community, we would love to hear from you. Click through the pages above to find out more.

Why not get involved?

A dilapidated doll’s house donated last year presented a unique team-building opportunity to volunteers at St Wilfrid’s Green Street shop!

The house was in bad repair - but it showed promise - and volunteers at the Green Street shop rallied together to give it a complete makeover.

Volunteers would come in for extra shifts to sand, strip wallpaper, paint, lay flooring, and some especially dedicated renovators took parts of the doll’s house home with them for more complicated repairs!

As the doll’s house transformation was taking place on the shop floor, customers got involved, too.

Some came in to watch the progress of the house, while others brought in donations of paint, wallpaper and furniture.

One customer even took window measurements and made curtains for the entire house, along with miniature quilted bedspreads and rugs!

The house was completed just before Christmas and then raffled through the shop, raising an amazing £251 for the hospice in the process!

The lucky winner was Demetrios Photiou, who is the owner of Eastbourne Old Town’s Trident Fish Restaurant, and the father of three young girls, who are delighted with their new doll’s house!

As Green Street’s Manager, Karen, says: ‘The money raised was the icing on the cake as the project joined my volunteers together. They now see themselves as not just “names on a rota,” but valued individuals who have achieved things they didn’t think they were capable of.’

St Wilfrid's depends on over 600 volunteers who help at the hospice, in our charity shops and at our fundraising events throughout the year, and we couldn't do what we do without them.
