Speciality Doctor

0.55 WTE (5.5 Programmed Activities)

Starting salary £40,000 FTE per annum (£22,000 pro-rata)

An opportunity has arisen at St Wilfrid’s Hospice for a dedicated Doctor to join the medical establishment providing specialist palliative care within the Hospice building in Broadwater Way, Eastbourne and also the community we serve. The post is initially offered as fixed term until the end of January 2019 and is vacant from March 2018 for an immediate start if available.

St Wilfrid’s Hospice is a voluntary organisation meeting the specialist palliative care needs for the local population (Eastbourne, Seaford, Pevensey, Hailsham, Uckfield and Heathfield). We currently have a 20 bedded Inpatient unit (15 beds used for specialist palliative care, additional 5 are nurse-led end of life care beds supported by the medical team), community nurse specialist service, ‘Wellbeing’ centre for day attendance and out patients, 24/7 Nurse Line support for patients, carers and professionals and 7 day a week Hospice at Home service.

The vacant post is 0.55 FTE (5.5 Programmed Activities – 5 Direct Clinical Care and 0.5 supporting activity). The post will focus primarily on medical support of the Inpatient unit alongside other members of the medical team, supported by the duty consultant.  Opportunities to develop in other areas such as domiciliary assessments and out-patients will be possible depending on interest and experience.  One half day per fortnight dedicated to supporting activities such as teaching, CPD, appraisal and clinical governance.  The post will also contribute to the out of hours support for the Hospice with one night a week remote on call (to coincide with the working day) and a 1 in 5 weekend on call (1.5 programmed activities per week allocated to out of hours work).  The proposed working days are flexible but one will preferably be a Thursday, alternate days may be considered if necessary.

Previous palliative care experience would be beneficial but not essential and so the post would suit someone wanting to expand their knowledge in this important area of clinical care. So if you are a doctor passionate about holistic care, an excellent team player and want an opportunity to spend more time with patients this could be for you.

The FTE starting salary for this post is £40,000 (£22,000 per annum pro rata).
