Join us for Starlight Stroll with your friends, family and colleagues. Illuminate Eastbourne seafront with hundreds of glowing lanterns and help raise vital funds for hospice care, by walking either 4 or 6 miles under the stars. Lay down your lantern at the halfway point in the beautiful Italian Gardens and reflect on treasured memories with loved ones. *Brand new this year* We've added stargazing with the Eastbourne Astronomical Society to your Starlight Stroll. On your return to the Redoubt Fortress after the stroll, any strollers are free to join the astronomers on The Redoubt gun platform where it may be possible to view the first quarter moon, Saturn, Mars, Jupiter and the Milky Way. Last year we made a video about the memories we shared together on a beautiful September evening. Take a look below and see the magic you'll be a part of this year. Where? The Redoubt Fortress will be hosting our registration and warm up party. The Stroll takes place along Eastbourne Seafront with a stop halfway to lay your lantern at the Italian Gardens. When? This year Starlight Stroll falls on the slightly later date of Saturday September 15th 2018. Registration starts at 5.30pm and the walk begins at 6.45pm. Why? Starlight Stroll is a special occasion to remember loved ones and gather with the whole community to support hospice care and each other. Whilst this is a beautiful evening it is also our largest fundraiser in the year and we ask all participants to raise sponsorship money outside of their registration fee (which only covers the cost of attendance). What does your entry fee include? You get a T-shirt to wear on the night. Don't worry when you don't receive them in the post as we'll be handing them out to registrants on the night! This saves the hospice on postage and allows more of your sponsorship money to go directly to patient care. You'll receive a lantern in the post which you can decorate beforehand to dedicate it to your loved one. You'll also receive a tealight and a torch on the night. Most importantly you'll have an unforgettable evening with the whole St Wilfrid's community. Suggested minimum sponsorship of £100 per person. Remember, fundraising can be a fun, simple group activity for those registering in larger numbers! Starlight Stroll is sponsored by Switchplane and supported by Eastbourne Astronomical Society and The Redoubt. Please note that photographers will be in attendance in all areas of the Starlight Stroll. Photos will be used for future promotional purposes, possibly by third parties to support the hospice. Please contact a member of staff in advance or on the day if you do not wish to be in pictures. Stargazing is weather dependent and will not be possible if conditions are too cloudy. Terms and Conditions for Starlight Stroll Read more By participating in this event and signing up you agree to the following terms and conditions 1. To pledge to raise a suggested minimum sponsorship of £100 for St Wilfrid’s Hospice care 2. That you are over 16 and, if you are not, that you are walking with a responsible adult over the age of 18. If you are the adult in charge of younger people you agree to be responsible for their conduct and safety during the event 3. That you accept our reasonable use of photography on the night and in promotional materials from the hospice and in third party sources. If you object to being photographed or being filmed on the evening you are obliged to contact a member of the Starlight Stroll event team immediately 4. One lantern is provided per person and arrives with your registration pack. The hospice is only obliged to provide one lantern per entrant and replacements are at the discretion of St Wilfrid’s event team 5. Dogs are permitted to take part in the event but will not be allowed in the parade grounds of The Redoubt. They can be taken to the gun platform instead. Dogs must be kept on the leash at the Italian Gardens. Event marshals may ask you to leave the immediate area if your dog is misbehaving or being disruptive 6. T-shirt sizes are confirmed when you register and cannot be changed on the night. Please ensure you have ordered the correct size 7. Under 5s will be provided with free registration and event signup but are not entitled to a complementary T-shirt. They will be provided with a lantern and torch for the event 8. There is provision for disabled access at The Redoubt and disabled entrants may register on the gun platform at The Redoubt 9. You abide by our expectations that all participants are to be respected and respectful to each other before, during and after the event. This particularly applies to the memorial area in the Italian Gardens. Stewards may ask loud or disruptive groups or individuals to leave the immediate area 10. You agree that due to the scale of the event and number of participants that some delays may ensue at certain points of the stroll. This includes potential delays to enter the Italian Gardens, register at the event and waiting for access to telescopes at the stargazing session 11. You agree to start the walk at the designated start time which will be confirmed by event organisers on the night (provisionally 6:45pm) 12. You agree that you are physically able to complete the work without risk of injury or harm to yourself or others 13. If you register and are no longer able to attend the walk, St Wilfrid’s Hospice is not obliged to refund your entry fee or any sponsorship already received. 14. Each walker will be provided with one bottle of water for the walk. If you think you may require more food or drink please bring it along with you or bring money to purchase from stalls at the event 15. You agree to participate in the pre-walk warmup for health and safety purposes 16.
