Not only has the Covid-19 pandemic stopped us from welcoming you all in to the hospice, but it has also made it impossible for our Community Support Volunteers to have face to face interactions with their patients. With this being the case, one member of the CSV team, Bill Philps, came up with an innovative idea.

Bill's patient, Martin, has led a very interesting life but has never had the chance to make a written record for his family. Bill knew this was something that he could help with, so with the help of video calling, the pair have been having weekly online meetings so that Bill can create a biography of Martin's life.

Martin has said that he is finding this a great experience as it is helping his failing memory, and with Bill’s prompting he is now able to recall many amazing and pleasurable facts about his earlier life. His wife Denise is also delighted at what is proving a great stimulant as it has encouraged Martin to talk, which is sometimes difficult.

Martin says that despite the lockdown, he feels that through his weekly contact with Bill he is getting great support from the hospice.
