Seven happy things from the past week - 23/03/20 Each week we will be sharing seven things that have put smiles on our faces over the past week, because smiling can boost your mood when you're feeling blue. Without further ado, let's see what what made us happy this week. 1. On Tuesday we shared a story on Instagram with a lesson of kindness. The story was about a teacher who asked their students to each write their names on a balloon. The balloons were then tossed into the hall and they had five minutes to find the balloon with their name on it. As the time ran out, nobody had found their balloon. The teacher then told them to take the closest balloon to them and give it to the person whose name was on it. The lesson was ‘balloons are like happiness. No one will find it looking for theirs only. Instead, if everyone cares about each others, they fill find theirs as quickly as possible.’ 2. On Facebook last week a gentlemen was out walking his dog and came across a young couple giving out free bunches of flowers from their garden to cheer people up. We love small acts of kindness like this! 3. On Wednesday, ABM Catering, the caterers for the St Wilfrid’s Street Café, continued to make a roast for family members and St Wilfrid’s staff who are still hard at work to keep the hospice going. For those who were starting to feel a bit down about the current situation, this really made their day. 4. Pret A Manger were giving hot drinks to NHS workers on the house last week and taking 50% off of everything else to say thank you. 5. Many of you have been sharing your personal stories regarding our gardens with us on the main Facebook page. Sadly we can’t welcome you to our public spaces with you at the moment, but it was lovely to read your comments and to see people coming together to re-live happy memories of loved ones. 6. National Trust demonstrated a small act of kindness and are opening their outdoor spaces for free. Although we must all make sure we’re staying at least 2 metres apart, fresh air and nature is proven to be beneficial for our mental health. 7. Friday 20th was the International Day of Happiness. It was lovely to see our Twitter feed full of posts that put a smile on our faces. From lots of smiling dogs and videos of donkeys having their backs scratched to random acts of kindness. You may have even seen the reasons why we're happy. It would be great to see the things that make you smile too. Share them on the Community Facebook group to put a smile on other people's faces as well!
