Gay's bridge lunch for St Wilfrid's a great success A group of St Wilfrid's supporters have run a lunch followed by a game (or few!) of bridge for the past six years. It's so popular, tickets have been known to sell out in a couple of weeks! Gay, who took over the running of the event in 2018, spoke to us about organising her own fundraiser for the hospice. 'I have been involved with different hospices for 25 years. My father and mother-in-law both had short stays at St Wilfrid's when it was at Mill Gap Road. 'When the opportunity came to help at the Hospice and with fundraising, I was pleased to be able to help. 'For the past three years we have held the lunch at the Lansdowne Hotel. 'This year, 112 people attended; invitations went out in January for the event, which took place in April, and we were sold out in a couple of weeks. 'On the day of the event, our little team of five arrives at the hotel, where we decorate the dining room with flowers, colourful fabrics and display the raffle and auction prizes. 'Guests are welcomed with a glass of wine upon arrival, before enjoying a two-course lunch. 'Then there's coffee and a quick auction before enjoying a couple of hours of bridge.' In terms of organising the event itself, Gay said that 'St Wilfrid's Community Fundraising team were very helpful with their support and advice. 'On the day of the event they provided any promotional items we needed, such banners, flags, collection buckets or goblets, balloons, sashes and any PR material we might need.' This year’s bridge and lunch event raised £2,600 for the hospice. Thank you to Gay and the team!
