While many of us will be treating ourselves to advent calendars to count down the days until Christmas, Danny Leach has decided to count down the 25 days with a 10K run every single day, all in support of St Wilfrid’s!

Danny, who lives in Hailsham, has been a supporter of St Wilfrid’s Hospice for many years, after witnessing the care that our wonderful Clinical teams provide first hand when his aunty, uncle and a couple of his friends were under our care.

He has already ran the Brighton Marathon twice in aid of St Wilfrid’s, once in 2012 and then again in 2016, and now he has decided to run the equivalent of around five marathons between the 1st and 25th December!

‘The hospice is an amazing charity that is very close to my heart,’ he said. ‘I wanted to get involved with something again because I know how hard this year has been for the hospice.

‘It’s definitely going to be hard and it has been harder to train for than the marathons because it’s endurance over multiple days instead of a single run. I don’t want to train too much either and risk tiring myself out before I even start! Knowing that I am doing it for such a great cause will keep me going, though.

It will mean everything to me to complete it and to know that I have raised enough money to help people in the same way that my family and friends were cared for. Knowing that my body can let me do 250k will be incredible as well!’

We would like to take this opportunity to thank Danny for all of his support and wish him the best of luck with his challenge.

If you would like to support Danny for his Advent Challenge, you can donate to his JustGiving page here. The funds raised will enable St Wilfrid’s to continue to provide care and support to patients and their loved ones, like Danny’s family and friends, in the future.
