We are incredibly thankful to those who chose and dedicate many hours to volunteering with us at St Wilfrid’s Hospice.

We have over 600 volunteers in a vast range of roles that ensure that we can continue to provide the support and care to our patients and their communities.

Every year the 1st to the 7th June is recognised as Volunteers’ Week throughout the UK. An amazing chance to celebrate and say thank you for the fantastic contribution millions of volunteers make across the UK.

We took the opportunity to raise awareness of our volunteers and their contribution during this week by asking people to leave their reflections on the impact of our volunteers on our Volun-tree (a tree with leaves made up of the comments left by others of how important our volunteers are)

We also asked staff and volunteers to share about all the wonderful work that volunteers are doing around the hospice building, in our retail locations and in the community.  They could do so by making nominations and giving their reasons for these nominations.

All nominees were then invited to an afternoon tea as a thank you for their contribution where CEO, David Scott-Ralphs presented each with a certificate that contained reasons from their nominations.

Not everyone nominated could make the awards, but we managed to capture some of them and their certificates below:

Above and beyond

Every year four nominees are selected for an above and beyond award.

Winners of above and beyond awards are able to choose a one or two-night break in one of over 330 hotels across the UK at no cost to the hospice as part of a volunteer rewards scheme.

'Our very heartbeat'

It was a privilege to be able to honour some of our amazing volunteers in this way.

We are thankful for every volunteer knowing that they as individuals and teams;

  • have a huge positive impact on St Wilfrid’s vision and mission,
  • have supported patients, friends and family members, carers and the bereaved,
  • are amazing examples of people going the extra mile,
  • have overcome challenges in their roles,
  • have made a powerful contribution to many of our projects,
  • and, continue to be the smiling faces that many of our patients and families first meet.

Thank you to all our volunteers for your service, your smiles and your support.

You are the very heartbeat of St Wilfrid’s and we are so thankful to have you with us!
