A record 46 runners took part in this year’s Eastbourne Half Marathon (Sunday 3rd March) to raise nearly £6,000 for St Wilfrid’s Hospice.

Among them was Matt Halls, who finished with a swift time of 01:45:04, only to then complete a burpee for every pound he had raised in sponsorship!

Matt’s mum, Jacqueline, died at St Wilfrid’s Hospice in March 2017. The day of the race was an important one for Matt as it marked both the two-year anniversary of her death and her birthday.

On the day itself, Matt completed more than 1,000 burpees, with friends stepping in to make up the last few hundred repetitions.

He said ‘Never in a million years did I think I would raise so much money, and it was amazing to be surrounded by my friends and family as I did my burpees.

‘Now I need some time for my body to heal, as I currently feel I have no legs!’

In total, Matt raised an incredible £1,900 for St Wilfrid’s Hospice, and we were delighted to welcome him back to the hospice for the presentation of his cheque.

Thank you, Matt your fundraising will make a real difference to the lives of local patients and their loved ones.
