[email protected] returned last week and made an incredible £93,000! That's £36,000 more than in 2017 as bids online and at the event helped us to our best ever total.

Guests were greeted with refreshments and flowers in the glorious sunshine preceding a fine Bank Holiday weekend, before entering the colossal marquee hired by the [email protected] Committee.

Butlers were available for every table, drawn from volunteers and a few members of staff. A beautiful new marquee to host the larger crowd - as well as a delicious three course lunch - was provided by Super Event and was filled with more than 330 attendees who were regaled by master of ceremonies Roger Dakin, in what was a lively, laughter-filled event. Many guests were prominent members of the community and long-term supporters of the hospice and good causes in East Sussex.

The hospice's work was introduced by CEO David Scott-Ralphs in a short speech before a short film about 'Closer to You' (St Wilfrid's new initiative to bring outstanding hospice care to the widespread people of the catchment area) was played. Guests also heard from family members of former patients, who spoke touchingly of the care their loved ones had received and the importance of donations to St Wilfrid's.

The event was preceded by an online auction from May the 11th, which attracted a great deal of interest online with many excellent bids for some fantastic items - some going live on the website just two days before the lunch date. There were numerous lots in the auction which were exclusive to the event too, to help keep the guests entertained.

On behalf of all staff and volunteers, patients and families, St Wilfrid's would like to extend a huge thank you to those who helped at the event, provided organisational support and took part on the day. A special thanks is reserved for the amazing efforts of the [email protected] Committee, without whom the day would not have been possible or nearly as successful.
