Volunteers' Garden Party

The annual summer garden party is an occasion for volunteers to gather together to enjoy each other's company -  and most importantly it's an occasion for the hospice to show its appreciation for all that volunteers do to support us.

" this is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the enormous generosity, compassion and dedication of our volunteers.  On behalf of the staff and the countless numbers of patients and relatives whose lives they have touched and supported in so many ways, I would just like to say thank you”

Kara Bishop, Chief Executive (garden party speech July 2011)

In 2011 the party was attended by the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire.

" We are humbled by the sheer love and selflessness with which you give your time.  Thank you especially from all of those who don't have a voice here today, but whose lives have been touched and enriched, whether they be a patient or relative, through your fantastic compassion and support."

Duke of Devonshire

Other special guests included local MP Stephen Lloyd, the Mayor Councillor Carolyn Heaps and Keith Ridley, Editor-in-Chief of the Gazette and Herald. There was musical entertainment fromt he hospice choir and Fiona Hosford played harp. At the party volunteers are given awards for 3 and 10 years of voluntary service.

2012's garden party will be a special one as it will be the last at the Mill Gap Road site. (Numbers are limited by the capacity of the hospice garden.)  We look forward to celebrating with you on 11 July 2012. Invitations will be despatched soon.
