Our wonderful Starlight Stroll returns to Eastbourne Seafront for a third year and we’d love you to join us!

Walk with our nurses, volunteers and the fundraising team along with your friends, family and colleagues to help us raise vital funds for St Wilfrid’s Hospice, as we illuminate the promenade with glowing lanterns and reflect on treasured memories with loved ones.

Starlight Stroll 2017 is now open for registration!

When? This year Starlight Stroll falls on the slightly earlier date of Saturday September 2nd 2017. Registration starts at 5.45pm and the walk begins at 6.45pm.

How much does it cost? If you register before 31st July you’ll pay the Early Bird price of £12 per person. If you register from 1st August until 28th August, it will cost £15 per person. All Under 5s go free whenever they are registered. Registration strictly closes at 5pm on Monday 28th August, but will reopen on the night where you can register for £30 per person.

What happens when I register? Once you’ve signed up, either online, by calling us or by sending in a completed registration form, shortly afterwards you will receive your ‘Registration and Fundraising Pack’ in the post (please make sure you give the correct postal address for each participant when registering multiple people). It will contain all you need to know about the event, plus lots of support, ideas and encouragement to help with your fundraising.

Where? We’ll start at the Napoleonic Redoubt Fortress where you’ll register, pick-up your official Starlight Stroll t-shirt and tea-light to go in your previously decorated lantern. They’ll be a lively warm-up, plenty of music and you can also hear touching stories from some families who have been overwhelmed by the care they and their loved ones have received from St Wilfrid’s, as well as listening to some of our inspiring nurses talk about the vital work, that they so love doing.

What happens next? You can choose the traditional 4 mile walk or brand new for 2017, why not opt for the more 6 mile option.

4 mile route: Setting off from the Redoubt Fortress, lantern in hand, you’ll turn right and head along the prom towards Holywell, passing under the pier, passed the Wish Tower and landing at the halfway point, the beautiful Italian Gardens. Take some time in the gardens to lay down your lantern, remember your loved ones, reflect and find comfort in the community of St Wilfrid’s supporters sharing the same experience. After this, make your way back to the Redoubt to be greeted by the team and collect your medal.

6 mile route: Also starting from the Redoubt, if you are following the 6 mile route you will turn left onto the seafront and make your way to the end of the promenade at the Sovereign Harbour end, before turning around and heading back passed the fortress to the picturesque Italian Gardens, where you can add your lantern to the collection already gathered beneath the stars and take your time to reflect under the stars. After this, make your way back to the Redoubt to be greeted by the team and collect your medal.

Why we need you to fundraise: As well as Starlight Stroll being ‘a walk to remember’ and an opportunity to honour loved ones, it is also our biggest fundraising event of the year. As you might know it costs over £12,000 a day to run the hospice, which is an awful lot of money. By asking you to help us fundraise, we’ll be able to make enough money to keep providing the best end of life care to hundreds of people a year who need it, as well as caring for their loved ones. We are asking you to aim to raise a minimum of £100 each and if just 600 people register and raise this, we’ll make £60,000 from this wonderful event. There will be prizes for the our top fundraisers, so please do aim to raise as much as you possibly can.
