What volunteer role can I do?

We have many different volunteer roles at the hospice to suit different people and we’re always looking for new faces to join our amazing team. We have a volunteer induction process in place to support you in your role.

Hospice volunteer roles:

We welcome volunteers with specific skill sets in areas such as hairdressing, complementary therapy and clinical admin. We also have a team of specialist volunteers in bereavement support.

St Wilfrid’s Hospice shop:

We are excited to announce that we are opening shop on-site at the hospice and we are looking to recruit volunteers to support the running of the shop.

We are looking for volunteers for two new volunteer roles:
Retail Volunteer Team Leader – an exciting and ambitious new role for St Wilfrid’s. The role has been developed to offer retail and volunteer leadership opportunities and training.
Sales Assistant – We are looking for several volunteers to support with sales and the running of the shop.

Are you interested in a career in medicine or healthcare and looking for unique and meaningful work experience?

St Wilfrid’s Hospice runs a Young Clinical Volunteer (YCV) programme for 16 to 23 year olds that provides patient-facing experience and learning opportunities integral to the all-important personal statements and university interviews.

The YCV programme includes:

  • Initial Saturday training
  • one evening a week attendance, from 4pm to 8pm for six months
  • supporting Nurses and Healthcare Assistants on the Inpatient Unit
  • extensive training, and learning opportunities working towards the St
  • Wilfrid’s YCV Certificate incorporating the Care Certificate
  • support from a volunteer mentor
  • project work on hospice care
  • a final presentation evening

If you are in post 16 education (up to age 23) and interested in applying, please complete a YCV application form and return it to the hospice ASAP.
