Volunteer for us

Whether it's minutes or months, days or decades, every moment matters.

Volunteers are at the heart of our hospice and play a vital role in everything we do. Without their time and generosity, we would not be able to provide our services to patients and their families.

We're always looking to welcome new faces to our amazing team. If you have some time to spare and would like to make a difference in your local community, we would love to hear from you.

What could I do?

You could volunteer at our hospice on Broadwater Way, or in any of our charity shops. We have volunteers in many areas, including: hosting, administration, hairdressing, beauty therapy, bereavement support, chaplaincy, driving, floristry, fundraising, gardening, housekeeping, warehouse assisting and stock sorting. We also have some new roles for volunteers such as van companions, social media assistants, online sales and event planning! Together, we'll find a role with your name on it.

What will I gain from volunteering?

Our volunteers often tell us how rewarding their time with us is: you'll be part of a compassionate community and feel a real sense of pride for what you do. You'll meet new people, gain valuable experience, and develop your skillset. We're passionate about helping people to reach their full potential, so we'll offer you relevant training and support. We're open from Monday to Saturday, 9am – 5pm, so we can fit around your busy schedule.

What kind of people are you looking for?

The personal qualities we look for in all of our volunteers are: flexibility and adaptability, the ability to work well with others, commitment and reliability, sensitivity, kindness and empathy, and an openness to learning and development.

I can only spare a couple of hours a week. Can I still help?

Yes! Some of our volunteer roles, such as hosting, have a set shift pattern, however, we understand that you have lots of other things to do and will agree on a time commitment that works for you.

How do I become a volunteer?

The first thing we ask is that you complete our application form and return this to us via email to: vsm@stwhospice.org. Alternatively, you can pop it in the post or hand it in to our hospice at: 1 Broadwater Way, Eastbourne, East Sussex BN22 9PZ, or to any of our charity shops. Once we've received and reviewed your application, we'll invite you in to an informal interview or assessment session, where you can find out more about what we do and how you could help us. If you'd prefer to have an informal chat before you apply, you're very welcome to call us on 01323 434212. We're available Monday to Saturday, 9am – 5pm so please get in contact.
